Optometrist
Dr. Gaume graduated from Pacific University in 1992 and founded Focus West Optometry in 1997. He serves as team optometrist for Canada's National Long Track Speed Skating Team. With extensive experience in sports vision, he provides specialized eye care for athletes.
Dr. Julie Lee-Ying
Optometrist
Dr. Lee-Ying graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2007 with clinical specialization in ocular disease. She joined Focus West Optometry in 2007 and became a partner. Her expertise includes therapeutic eye care and comprehensive vision examinations for all ages.

Do you accept walk-in patients?
We accommodate emergency and walk-in patients whenever possible, though appointments are recommended for comprehensive exams.
How often should I get eye exams?
Recommended intervals: every 2-4 years before 40, 1-3 years between 40-54, 1-2 years between 55-64, and annually after 65.
Does insurance cover eye exams?
AHCIP covers annual exams for children under 19 and seniors over 65. Adults 20-64 require private coverage or self-pay.
Do you offer direct insurance billing?
We provide direct billing through Blue Cross and can submit claims to other insurers upon request.
What dry eye treatments are available?
We offer iLux device therapy, punctal plugs, and customized dry eye kits for effective symptom management.

This was definitely the best experience when it comes to eye exam. Doctor was super patient and knowledgeable, willing to answer to all my questions, took time to exam my vision properly with no rush! I have no words to be good enough to explain how helpful the staff was with helping me to choose perfect frames that fit me the best. Especially nowadays when every single frame that was tried has to be disinfected again, the lady didn't hesitate to offer me minimum 20 different styles so I can be sure which ones are the "one"! Highly recommend!

I got a real sense of genuine care for the patient and integrity both times I've had full eye exams here. Dr Gaume and the staff are great. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for an optometrist!

My appointment was in April, so it has been almost year but I waited to review
I did purchase new glasses at the appointment, but I am very disappointed with them. I have not been able to wear them, any longer then a few hours and I am dizzy and nauseas and extreme headaches. I was not able to adjust to the new glasses ( which is why I waited so long to review incase I did)
I end up wearing my old glasses, I do not have coverage, So I am very upset with the loss of money
the exam it's was also very very quick, which might have affect the accuracy of the prescription , the doctor was polite
