About Us
Report
Cornerstone Counselling was born in the basement of Bonnie Doon Baptist Church of Edmonton in 1977. It was founded by Reverend Dr. Ernest Runions and Dr. Doug Spinney who had a vision for a Christian counselling agency that could help people during life's most difficult moments. They believed that by providing affordable and professional mental health care, people would heal and have better lifelong outcomes.
Services
Report
At Cornerstone, our counsellors help clients learn to accept and understand their feelings. This awareness can be the first step toward becoming renewed, healed, and transformed. It can be difficult for two independent people to learn to live together in a healthy, interdependent relationship. Cornerstone offers group and individual premarital counselling to help couples get off to a good start.
Children & Adolescent Counselling
Report
There are few things more difficult for a parent than to watch their child struggle mentally or emotionally. Just like adults, children experience grief, loss, depression, and anxiety. Children can also be impacted by bullying, trauma, and academic struggles which can result in behavior changes and self-esteem issues.
Indigenous Clients
Report
Indigenous clients may have access to coverage for Mental Health Counselling Services through the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program or the Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program (IRS RHSP). The First Nations Inuit Health Board provides counselling services to First Nations People who qualify for the program.
Cognitive, Emotional, and Behavioural Assessment Services
Report
Cognitive/Learning and Emotional/Behavioral Assessments can be valuable for students of all ages. When ability, learning style, and areas of giftedness or difficulty are identified, learning environments can be modified to maximize the student's opportunity for success. The outcomes are then transcribed into a report that will include recommendations for programming and remediation.
