Peter practised real estate law, will and estate planning, and provided general solicitor services. In 1989, Peter added refugee protection legal services to his core competencies.
In 1994 Peter established his own firm that welcomed Jonathon W. Jurmain following his call to the bar in 1998. Report
Immigration is a major, ongoing focus for Canada's federal government, and legislation can change frequently and with little notice. Navigating these changes requires constant engagement in immigration law, and a deep experience in how the climate can shift in Canada. At Jurmain Law Office, we simplify what can often be a complicated process.
Family Immigration
Report
Some prospective immigrants are entitled to apply for status in Canada because they are related to a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. At Jurmain Law Office, we will help you interpret how Immigration Canada enforces its rules for family immigrants - including any recent changes in requirements or prohibitions - and advise on the best path forward.
Economic Immigration
Report
In 2015, Canada introduced the Express Entry system, an entirely online process for immigration applications. Those who qualify for permanent residence in several classes (including skilled worker, Canada experience, skilled trade, among others) must use the Express Entry online portal. This system ranks applicants based on a range of criteria such as age, education, language ability, work experience, to a maximum score of 1,200 points.
Visitor Visas and Work Permits
Report
Visitor visas are required for many individuals travelling to Canada for a temporary period of time. The standard length of such a visa is six months. You can find out whether you need a visitor visa on this Government of Canada website. At Jurmain Law Office, we take the pressure off these applications by applying on your behalf, and can extend your visitor visa past six months if needed.
