Services
Cleaning
Report
Teeth at first form plaque which can turn into calcified deposits right at the gum line. These calcified deposits may show up even with meticulous cleaning. They are referred to as calculus or tartar. It is rough and can harbour many kinds of bacteria. If left unchecked these calcified deposits can lead to gingivitis, making the gums inflamed and prone to bleeding.
Root Canals
Report
Dentists are paid by how many canals are treated. Molars usually have three canals (but sometimes 4 and very rarely 5), premolars may have one or two, and front teeth usually have one canal. Treatment time may vary from 30 minutes to 2 hours, rarely more. A filling repair then needs to be added on with additional time and expense.
Tmj
Report
People are told this all the time by dentists and doctors to basically say they have something wrong with their jaw joint. This is an unfortunate term as there is no useful information in this term. TMJ is an acronym for temporomandibular joint where the temporal bone of the skull interacts with the ball (condyle) of the mandible.
Occlusion
Report
The jaw joints (the TMJ's), are intimately related with this. These ball joints usually sit loosely in a shallow depression in the base of the skull just in front of the ears. Loosely means they are not locked in like an elbow joint is. When the jaws open they can move like a hinge. They can also slide forward.
Crowns
Report
A full crown is a casing that goes around the entire part of the tooth that is visible covering all of it from the biting surface right down to the gum line. The rule of thumb we use to decide if a tooth needs a crown is: If there is more filling material than remaining tooth structure holding this filling material then we seriously recommend placing a crown over it - the 50/50 rule.
