Services
Bunion Surgery
Our Tri-Correctional Bunionectomy offers permanent correction through bone realignment and cannulated screw fixation. This minimally invasive procedure enables immediate weight bearing, with patients returning to athletic shoes within two weeks. Performed under local anesthesia at False Creek Surgical Centre, the technique reduces post-operative pain while maintaining structural stability for faster healing compared to traditional methods requiring prolonged casting.
Sports Medicine
Specialized treatment for sports-related foot and ankle injuries combines gait analysis with biomechanical assessment. Using F-Scan pressure mapping technology, we identify abnormal movement patterns that contribute to chronic conditions. Custom orthotics and targeted rehabilitation programs help athletes at all levels recover from injuries including stress fractures, plantar fasciitis, and Achilles tendonitis while preventing future complications through improved biomechanical efficiency.
Custom Orthotics
Precision-engineered orthotics address biomechanical imbalances through 3D laser scanning technology that captures foot structure in proper neutral position. These custom inserts redistribute pressure points, correct alignment issues, and alleviate pain from conditions like flat feet and high arches. Our diagnostic approach ensures optimal material selection - from rigid carbon composites to soft cushioning - based on individual gait analysis and activity requirements.
Laser Therapy
The Fox System Arc 1264 nW laser targets chronic soft tissue injuries by breaking down damaged collagen and stimulating tissue regeneration. This non-invasive treatment effectively addresses plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis through 30-minute sessions that promote healing without requiring downtime. The technology's precise wavelength penetration allows focused treatment of inflamed fascia and tendons while preserving surrounding healthy tissue structure.
Hallux Limitus Surgery
Specialized surgical interventions for degenerative big toe joint arthritis include Tricorrectional Osteotomy for moderate cases and joint implantation for severe conditions. The procedure involves strategic bone wedge removal to restore normal joint mechanics and eliminate deforming forces causing degeneration. Post-operative rehabilitation focuses on maintaining range of motion while preventing recurrence through customized footwear modifications and gait retraining.

Few days ago, I saw DR. Matthews on unrelated matter to my bunion surgery which was done 21 years ago! I am eternally grateful to Dr. Mathews for his surgical skills, professional & personal attention, which allowed me & continue to enjoy walking, skiing, dancing that 21 years ago were not possible. Thank you!

My experience with Dr. Mathew's was very good. From the first zoom meeting he explained exactly what was involved with the bunion surgery and what would be involved with recovery. I followed all of his directions and have healed up lovely. I would highly recommend Dr. Mathew's for bunion surgery.

On two separate occasions I have booked an appointment (weeks in advance) and both times it was cancelled at the very last minute because Dr Mathews was going on vacation.

Dr. Mathews is my favourite podiatrist. Not only that he fixed my feet problems (that multiple Doctors couldn't), but he also shared his interesting stories, so in his office I got great service in pleasant atmosphere. If I could give him 10 , I would. Thank you Dr. Mathews!
