Dr. King earned her Optometry Degree at Bradford University, UK and has done further training at the University of Waterloo. She has practiced Optometry for over 20 years, in the UK, the Caribbean and now for more than 10 years in Canada. Short-sightedness, or myopia, is increasing throughout the world. Family history, ethnic background, environment (living indoors, in cities) and carrying out near tasks, such as screen use, have all been linked to the development of myopia. However, there is no clear evidence to suggest that screen time alone is the direct cause.

Amblyopia, colloquially called lazy eye, is a condition in which the eye cannot perform its intended function due to neurological neglect. An eye affected by amblyopia does not receive the stimulation it needs from the brain to behave normally, which causes the brain to favor the healthy eye. It develops from strabismus (eye-turn) or untreated refractive errors.
