There are ways to slow down the progression of children's myopia and prevent future vision loss. York Finch Eye Associates, adjacent to the former Humber River Hospital (now named the Reactivation Care Centre), is a well-established ophthalmology practice that was founded by the late Dr. William Samis MD FRCSC in 1971.

Since its opening, YFEA has become a leader in both comprehensive and surgical eye care. The clinic incorporates multiple faculties including ophthalmology, optometry and neighbouring opticians (Gough Optical). YFEA also provides teaching opportunities for medical students interested in ophthalmology through The Eye Foundation of Canada.

Myopia Control Clinic
Report
Myopia, or nearsightedness, is the difficulty seeing things far away. It usually occurs when the eyeball is too long, making objects in the distance out of focus. The longer the eyeball, the harder it is to see things that are far away. Myopia typically begins in childhood and is progressive over time stabilizing around our late teens to early 20s.
