The law office of Clark Craig is located in Burlington, Ontario, and offers services in will drafting and administration, trusts and estates, real estate, and financial planning. Almost all of my legal practice is now concentrated in the areas of wills and estates and residential real estate. I have a wide practice in the wills and estates area, from drafting wills and trusts to estate administration, tax issues and tax returns on death.
In addition to the legal areas, I also operate a financial planning service in which I am able to provide anything from full financial plans to very specific and single goal types of plans. Since the qualifications and areas of knowledge are quite different, I offer financial planning as a distinct and separate practice.

About the Firm

I graduated from McMaster University in 1968 with a BA and from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1971. I was called to the bar in 1973 and started my legal practice in 1973 as a partner in Craig, Haber and Matthews. In 1977, the firm changed to Craig and Matthews and carried on until 1990 when we merged with the Hamilton firm of Simpson Wigle.

The answer is almost certainly yes. Nearly 50% of Canadians over the age of 18 do not have a will. Many of those without a will are unaware that the failure to make a will can leave their family members with no authority to deal with any of their assets. In most cases, even small bank accounts and personal possessions cannot be legally transferred without an expensive application to a court for the appointment of an Estate Trustee.

Many of those persons working in the industry have relatively little in the way of training or qualifications. Recognizing the need for public knowledge and protection, some national groups have been established to provide for uniform standards and a minimum level of education for those who qualify.
