Ants
Report
Ants are social insects and live in large colonies. There are two main types of ants in a colony: queens and workers. The queen ant lays eggs and worker ants care for the larvae, look for food and defend the nest. Depending on the species, ant colonies multiply by swarming or budding. Swarming means that winged males and females leave the colony to mate at certain times of the year.
Moles
Report
There are six species of moles in North America, and three of these may occur in your yard (Eastern Mole, Hairy-tailed Mole, and Star-nosed Mole). Moles are about the size of chipmunks (6-8 inches in length) and can weigh three to six ounces. Each year a mole can have one litter of two to six young, depending on the health of the female.
Pigeons
Report
The pigeon is the number one urban bird pest. They exist in large numbers in every city across the country. Pigeons are not afraid of people; they roost and nest readily in man made structures and they have a diverse diet. The standard pigeon has a short neck with a small head. Their short legs with the level front and hind toes allow them to perch on branches as well as walk on flat surfaces.
Raccoons
Report
Raccoons bend corn stalks down to eat the ears. They break open and scoop out watermelons. They can be devastating for poultry farmers and will occasionally attack family pets. Control measures include keeping pet food put away inside a tightly closed metal container, securing garbage can lids, and erecting a 5- to 6-foot fence or a two-wire electric fence.
