Sylvan's Custom Iron Works was founded in Vancouver, BC, in 1993. The following period of 35 years of work in the steel industry has allowed Sylvan to proudly boast himself as a true Master Craftsman. At the age of 17, Sylvan started working at The Caribbean Steel Mills, in Trinidad and Tobago. He was soon promoted to lead-hand, and a couple of years later became the Supervisor of 36 men working on his shift.

Curve Stair Railings are our specialty. We have made hundreds of Curve Stair Railings throughout Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto and the USA. Whether you have a drawing/photo or one of our pictures from the Gallery, we will either create it for you or help you come up with a design. When producing Wrought Iron Railings, every joint is hand-finished and filed to make the weld joint flawless and invisible.

We pay close attention when producing Ornamental Driveway Gates, Wrought Iron Gates or just Iron Gates because most of the times, the frame is made of Steel HSS Tubing.
Most manufacturers think that a steel tube on an Iron Gate should be welded on its four sides, so water doesn't get in; however, if so the oxygen is trapped inside the HSS frame and your prized Wrought Iron Gate or Driveway Gates start rusting from inside and by the time you notice the rust, they are completely rusted out from the inside.

Wine Cellar Gates

Wine Cellar Gates really give a wine cellar a finished look. We are able to create grape clusters with leaves and vines. Again, every Scroll is custom-made to fit in that Gate, so it will not look as if someone had been trying to fill a space with some out-of-scale scrolls. When we lay out a gate to make a particular design, the pattern is drawn up full-scale and each piece will be forged to fit exactly.
