Brown Family Law
Choosing the right lawyer to assist you in a family law matter can be a difficult and often overwhelming decision. I practice exclusively in family law matters and have the experience and skills necessary to ensure that you receive excellent legal representation at a reasonable expense. My strong preference is to see family law matters resolved efficiently and amicably through negotiated settlements.

I have extensive training in Collaborative Family Law and Mediation and believe those approaches lead to better resolutions for all involved, especially children. I have many years of courtroom experience which provides me with a valuable frame of reference in advising clients. We have a no-fault system of family law in Ontario (similar to car insurance) with rules and guidelines for most issues that arise following a separation.

Why Brown
Report
I was called to the bar in 2001 and have practiced exclusively in the area of family law since 2004. After 20 years in the courts I had my last court appearance in 2019. My practice is now exclusively focused on out-of-court settlements; through negotiation, mediation, and collaborative practice. My goal is to minimize the impact of separation and wherever possible maximize the opportunity for a creative resolution that benefits both parties.
Consultations
Report
A thorough consultation usually takes forty-five minutes to an hour, depending on the complexity of your circumstances and the number of questions you may have. While some lawyers, particularly personal injury lawyers, offer free half hour consultations, in my experience that is enough time to properly advise a potential family law client.
Faq
Report
Success in family court is difficult to measure. My criminal lawyer colleagues tell me a good criminal lawyer typically has a success rate of 50 percent. In a criminal proceeding the Crown has the burden of proving an accused's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. If you are charged with a criminal offence you want a criminal lawyer who is willing to challenge the Crown.
