Bows & Arrows is a small family and friend run business in Victoria, BC. We're a collection of stray coffee professionals taking a run at making something good while everyday making something fantastic - perfect coffee. But it's tricky. Our motivations are simple within a vast industry. We wish to do right by and for the people whom permit our livelihood.

We want to tangibly support and enjoy success with producers. We want to share exemplary coffees with our friends, partners and customers. We want to challenge ourselves to do better, engage ethically and answer to our conscience in a changing physical climate and troubled political landscapes. The vast majority of the coffee trade, as it is, is unsustainable - (even) within the niche of specialty coffee.

I thank my family for supporting me at all times since in 2011 I began to renovate the Finca Bella Vista in order to improve its quality. Being the 3rd generation to farm I have always been proud of my grandparents Felix Humberto Hidalgo and Cilia Recinos Perez who started the coffee plantation.

They planted bourbon and caturra varieties which were planted by means of stakes and little by little made a profit from the coffee and thanks to this we have enough to produce a high quality coffee at our elevation of 1800 to 1900 meters.

The Palo de Quina estate was a gift from my grandfather Florentin Reynoso to my father Magdaleno Reynoso, which I later inherited. Today I work the land together with my wife, my mother and my sons. The history of coffee in region began with our grandparents, who were the ones who started harvesting the bean, a lucrative crop.

I am from the community of Sansupo, Mataquescuintla, Jalapa, with pride Xinka territory. For as long as I remember my life has always revolved around coffee growing. My parents were coffee farmers and they taught me to live and take care of Mother Earth. And that's how, from a very young age, I was taught to work with coffee - from preparing the land to planting and even harvesting.
The Perez Family
Report
The Perez family is well know in the Guatemalan coffee community. They are a 5th generation of coffee producers. Over the years they have been able to set high standards and set examples not only for the people they work with and the coffee they produce but also for their fellow Guatemalan Coffee producers.
