While Luminus Financial is a comparably new brand within the Canadian credit and financial services sector, its origins date back to 1951. Founded by a group of Toronto Star employees, Starnews Credit Union was dedicated to providing personal banking products and services that members weren't able to get at the larger banks.
It was our first step in creating a financial services provider that focused on members' needs first, and one that has carried us forward for nearly 70 years. In 2010, Starnews was granted status as an open bond credit union, allowing it to amalgamate with four other like-minded credit unions who wanted to serve any individual, business or organization in Ontario.
