My mother had severe rheumatoid arthritis and I would soothe her pain with massages. At age nineteen, I left home for a career as a practical nurse. I worked in Vancouver, and later Abbotsford and Mission hospitals, until LPNs were replaced with RNs. In my ten years as a nurse, I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the patients' health care team.
