Dr. Alan Fernandes earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Western Ontario (1992) and a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Detroit Mercy Dental School (1997). He returned to Canada to be close to his family and began practicing in the Pickering area in 1997.
