The small hole in the bottom of the tin is covered by a one way adhesive valve much like the ones that you find on bags of coffee. After much testing we determined that our coffee keeps much better with this valve in place compared to how we used to pack it. Coffee releases CO2 after it is roasted, when it is trapped in the tin is bitters the coffee over time.
