Nanaimo Veterinary Hospital has a dedicated team of professionals who all share a passion for animal health care. The hospital is family owned and operated and has been serving the Nanaimo area since 1999. We pride ourselves in our client communication and involving owners in their pets' healthcare.

We schedule 30-minute appointments in order to maximize the time with the veterinarian and the support staff. Our hospital is well established and fully equipped to serve your pets needs. Our services include: wellness consultations including parasite prevention and vaccinations, internal medical care, blood tests, urinalysis and laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging with radiographs and ultrasound, surgery, dentistry and dental surgery.

During your pet's wellness visit we will discuss infectious disease risks and preventative vaccine options. We asses the risk of each individual patient and tailor our recommendations for your pet. Nutrition is one of the most important aspects of preventative care. We carry a variety of veterinary prescription diets that we may discuss based on your pet's needs, such as weight loss diets, dental diets or hypoallergenic diets.

Dr. James Kirkham is the co-owner of Nanaimo Veterinary Hospital with his wife Dr. Alex Kirkham. James was raised in Squamish, BC and has a love for Canada's west coast. He completed his Bachelor of Sciences with Distinction at the University of British Columbia.

He went on to complete his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012, graduating at the top of his class and was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal for highest academic achievement.James has a professional interest in diagnostic imaging, dentistry, internal medicine and preventive care.
