Bouma Orthotic Clinics has been providing quality patient care in the Sherwood Park, Alberta area for the past 20 years. We offer on-site manufacturing of a wide range of custom orthotic devices. We also supply, and can customize prefabricated ankle, knee, back and upper limb braces. Along with our main office, we travel to rural communities and to assistive living facilities to provide care.

At Bouma Orthotic Clinics we manufacture on-site a wide range of orthotic devices that are custom made from a patient cast. We also supply and can customize prefabricated devices. We are recognized providers with Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL), Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) and Workers' Compensation Board (WCB).
Foot Orthotics

There are two main types of foot orthotics that we offer. Hand-crafted foot orthotics are made from a plaster cast of the patient's foot. An impression of the foot is taken using Bio-Foam, which is then used to create a plaster mold of the foot. This mold is used to create a foot orthotic that specifically addresses the unique needs of each patient.
Lower Extremity

Our custom made lower extremity orthoses include AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthoses) and KAFOs (Knee Ankle Foot Orthoses). They are each made from a fiberglass cast of the leg. The cast is then filled with plaster to make a positive mold of the extremity. The orthosis is then fabricated with a specific design to meet the needs of the patient.
Knee Braces

We offer a variety of custom made knee braces. Some are made in-house while others are sent out for specific central fabrication. For some braces a fiberglass cast is taken and for others the leg is scanned using a 3D scanner to capture the shape. We have also have a wide range of custom fit knee braces and prefabricated knee braces depending on patient need.
Upper Extremity

We fabricate a variety of custom made upper extremity devices based on patient need. These include WHOs (Wrist Hand Orthoses), Elbow Orthoses and Hand Orthoses. Each of these are fabricated on-site from a cast of the patient and they are for long-term use. These devices are typically for people who require bracing short-term following an injury or long-term but without significant deformity such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow.
