There are many specific rules to criminal law and the criminal justice system is complex. You need a lawyer experienced in criminal defence law. No matter the charge you face, I bring the same effort to planning your defence, advocating on your behalf, and fighting for your rights. When the state assembles their unlimited resources to prosecute you, you need to have a tireless advocate on your side.
Services
Services
Report
I practice exclusively in the area of criminal law. In most cases that means charges under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. I can assist with bails, trials, sentencing, and appeals. I also defend those charged with quasi-criminal or regulatory offences. Convictions for regulatory offences often have adverse consequences such as fines, license suspensions, permanent loss of license, and sometimes even jail.
Fees
Report
At Drexler Law, I offer a free consultation to individuals that need assistance defending their criminal charges. During the initial meeting, the allegations are discussed and an initial assessment is made as to the services required. I prefer to charge a flat rate instead of an hourly rate. This flat rate is quoted to you before any work is done so that there are no surprises when you receive your legal bill.
When is Drug Possession a Crime
Report
The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) governs drug possession. Only drugs that are listed in the CDSA as controlled substances may be illegal. The CDSA contains five schedules of controlled substances which are illegal to possess in certain situations. Although cannabis is no longer a controlled substance, the possession of it is restricted in certain circumstances.
Differences in Youth Bail and Adult Bail
Report
The Supreme Court of Canada stated on several occasions that pre-trial detention is the exception, not the norm. This is especially true for youths under the age of 18. The Youth Criminal Justice Act governs young persons charged with criminal offences. The Act recognizes the diminished moral blameworthiness of young persons and provides for enhanced procedural protections.
What Happens When You Blow a ‘Warn’ or over 0.05
Report
There are two ways you can receive an administrative licence suspension for having a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) over 0.05 but less than 0.08. First if an officer makes a demand that you provide a sample into an approved screening device (ASD), you might blow a "warn." This indicates that your BAC is over.05.
